How to Install an SSL Certificate from cPanel

Installing an SSL certificate on your website through cPanel is a straightforward process. Here’s a breakdown of the steps involved:

Before You Begin:

  • Ensure you have obtained an SSL certificate and its corresponding private key and intermediate certificates (if provided) from a Certificate Authority (CA).
  • Locate your cPanel login credentials.

Installing SSL Certificate:

  1. Log in to cPanel: Access your web hosting provider’s control panel and log in using your cPanel credentials.
  2. Navigate to SSL/TLS Manager: Under the “Security” section, find and click on “SSL/TLS Manager.”
  3. Upload Your Certificate: Within the “SSL/TLS Manager,” there are usually two options:
    • Generate, view, upload, or delete SSL certificates: Choose this option and look for a section titled “Upload a New Certificate.” Click “Browse” and select your server certificate file (usually ending in .crt). You might also have a “Paste” option if the certificate is in text format. Upload the certificate and provide a description (optional).
    • Browse Certificates: If available, you can browse existing certificates on the server. Locate your certificate, select it, and click “Use Certificate.” This might auto-fill the certificate details.
  4. Install the SSL for Your Domain:
    • Manage SSL Sites: Look for a section titled “Install and Manage SSL for your site (HTTPS)” and click on “Manage SSL Sites.”
    • Select Your Domain: Choose the domain name where you want to install the SSL certificate from the dropdown menu.
    • Autofill or Manual Input: cPanel might attempt to automatically fill in the certificate details. If not, you’ll need to copy and paste the certificate and intermediate certificate chain (if provided) into the designated text boxes.
    • Additional Options: Depending on your cPanel version, you might have options like enabling SNI for mail services or specifying a dedicated IP address. Configure these according to your needs.
  5. Finalize the Installation: Click on “Install Certificate.” cPanel will process the information and confirm successful installation.

Important Notes:

  • If automatic filling fails or you encounter any issues, refer to your web hosting provider’s documentation or contact their support for further assistance.
  • The specific steps and interface might vary slightly depending on your cPanel version.

By following these steps, you should be able to install your SSL certificate from cPanel and secure your website.
